What is an ACEO card?

ACEO stands for "Art Cards, Editions, and Originals". They are comonly referred to as ATC or "Artist Trading Cards".

Where did artist trading cards originate from?

In 1997, M. Vanci Stirnemann, a Swiss artist, created 1,200 cards by hand as part of an exhibit. On the exhibit’s last day, he invited others to create their own cards and trade with him during the closing reception. The movement has skyrocketed and many other artists now organize major “swap” events. Today, there are art trading card swaps online and in almost every major city around the world!

What are the guidelines for creating and selling artist trading cards?

Artist trading cards are small trading cards that always measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" so that they can be collected in albums, just like baseball cards. They can be original artwork, numbered edition prints and photographs. Prices vary from $1 to $200 each and an average price is $10.Artist trading cards are either sold as originals or limited editions. Make sure you know which you are buying! If it is a print it should say so, and it should be numbered and signed, usually on the back.

Collecting art trading cards are a perfect and inexpensive way to collect other people's artwork, especially if you don’t have the room on your walls to display many large works of art.

Boca Grande Beach and Lighthouse Art

Boca Grande Beach and Lighthouse (Paper Art)

Boca Grande Beach and Lighthouse is a 16" x 20" mixed media collage on canvas that is framed in black.

To create this piece, I added multiple layers of blue and white tissue paper to create the sky and clouds, then blues, greens and white for the ocean and ground cover, white for sea oat grass and seagulls, tan for sand, and a red roof for lighthouse. I topped the collage off with may colors of glitter to provide motion for the water. I then sealed the completed piece with a UV protectant.
Boca Grande is located on Gasperilla Island in Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico. I have had the opportunity to visit this beautiful place and can understand Wilma's interest. Visit http://www.bocagrandechamber.com/ for information on this island.

This was a Custom Order in memory of the clients mother, Wilhelmina, who recently passed. Her family says Wilma was an amazing woman and that Boca Grande Beach and lighthouse (in Florida) was one of her most favorite places.

Obituary of Wilhelmina Gronso -
Wilhelmina Gronso, 95, of Dunlap, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
She was born in Kalamazoo, Mi., on October 21, 1916. Wilma moved with her family toAmsterdam, Holland where they lived for six years.
In 1939 she married Peter VanDyken, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1965. In 1979 she marriedGeorge Gronso who preceded her in death in 2005.
Wilma enjoyed her retirement years in Port Charlotte, Fla., and Dunlap. She was alsopreceded in death by parents, William and Dorothy Lucking; three brothers andone sister.
She is survived by her son, Peter (Ann) VanDyken, Jr. of Dunlap; three grandsons, Michael (Kim) VanDyken, Dunlap, Daniel (Dulce) VanDyken, Grand Rapids, Mi., and Peter (Jean) VanDyken III, Kingsley, Mi.; two stepgranddaughters, Sara (Shawn) Stiger and Angi Weigel, both of Dunlap; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a dear friend, Dollie Driver of Muskegon, Mi. Statue Of Liberty

Located in New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

This piece was inspired by the monument itself. Sherri combines photography, illustration, creativity, and graphic design in this fascinating limited edition, black and white print. Only 100 will be printed and sold!

The Red Poppy

This 16" x 16" mixed media collage piece was created on a hard canvas by using multiple layers of vibrant colored tissue papers and acid free glue are placed on a canvas and then sealed with a UV resistant coating.

"The Red Poppy" was inspired by red poppies; a memorial day tradition to remember veterans. Along with flags, one of the most common sights on Memorial Day are red poppies sold by the Veterans of Foreign Wars(VFW). This tradition was started by Monia Michael in 1915. After reading the poem “In Flanders Fields” written by Col. John McCrae of Canada she was inspired to both write a reply to his poem and wear a red poppy on Memorial Day. The tradition spread both throughout the country and to many other nations. In 1922 the VFW became the first veteran’s organization to sell red poppies nationally. Their “Buddy Poppy” campaign supports needy and disabled veterans.

Birch By The River - mixed media collage art made from recycled materials

Birch By The River

Birch By The River is a 24" wide x 36" tall x 2" thick mixed media collage on canvas. Birch tree trunks are three dimensional (see close up photo below) to add interest to this piece.

This piece is "green art" and was made from recycled materials. I first started with a used canvas that had undesired art on it and I painted it with primer and waited for it to dry. I cut used wrapping rolls in half and glued them to the canvas for tree trunks. I then added multiple layers of square shaped paper pieces to create the tree bark, river, ground cover, sky and tree branches, and glitter. Once dry, I sealed the completed piece with a UV protectant.

I chose square shaped pieces of paper to create a more abstraction piece. This abstraction piece is simple and will hang well in a log cabin to an industrial loft. Dominant colors are:

Birch Alley

Birch Alley is a "custom order", 3 x 4 foot mixed media collage on canvas that I just finished and is ready for framing! Colors include; black, white, turquiose, silver, green and yellow.

To create this piece, I first started with a blank canvas, then covered it entirely with textured black paper for a back drop. I then added multiple layers of paper for clouds, back layer of silver trees, ground cover, green grass, alley, white birch trees, whisping branches, yellow leaves and multiple colors of glitter. I then sealed the completed piece with a UV protectant.

This project was time consuming due to the many many layers of paper and sealant required for this canvas size, but fun to create as well! I used string to create a 9 section grid so that I could maintain proper scale and composition while adding the layers of paper - The grid worked well for me and I will use it again on future large canvas pieces.

Sherri is currently working on a really cool photo inspired project, titled "Church Wood - Series 2".

Painted wood siding that was stripped off an old church and thrown in a pile to burn was the inspiration for this collection.

This series will display 4 different patterns; stripes, funnel, stripes/border and criss-cross. No two are a like! Cut photograph strips are carefully placed in position on a hard substrate, then glued and preserved with epoxy. Water-like epoxy droplets are added for interest. Once the piece is cured, it can be matted and framed for completion.

This series is a MUST SEE!...The colors are so vibrant when viewed in person and look almost pearlized.
